Reinstalling Zynk
When moving Zynk from one machine to another it's important to do things in the correct order to make sure there that no issues arrive. Below is a list of steps and considerations to make sure things go as smoothly as possible.
1. Install Zynk on the new machine
Wherever possible, we advise keeping to the same version of Zynk you're currently on. We often update/upgrade tasks for greater reliability and certain task settings may change which can cause problems. To find your current version, go to Help > About within Zynk and note down the Version number specified. Once you have the Version number, please email us at [email protected] and we will email you a link to the correct executable file for re-install.
2. Copy the data
All of the unique information for your workflow resides in the 2.0 folder. This is located in either:
- Windows XP or earlier
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Zynk Software\Zynk\2.0
- Windows Vista or Later
C:\ProgramData\Zynk Software\Zynk\2.0
Once the workflows are turned off on the current machine and you are ready to move the data, this 2.0 folder will need to be copied to the same place on the new machine, overwriting the blank copy that was created in Step 1.
It's very important that this is only done after the last workflow run is complete and the schedules are turned off on the old machine, otherwise you will end up with a 'gap' in the data and anything processed after the copy will be lost.
3. Deactivate your old licence
To deactivate the old licence for use on a new machine, simply open Zynk on the old machine and go to Manage -> Licence -> Deactivate. We advise copying the licence key for use on the new machine to avoid any human error while typing it in.
4. Database Checks
Open Zynk on the new machine and activate using the licence from the previous step. Once open, it's important to check that the databases have been copied correctly. The simplest checks to make are:
- Log Database
Open your workflow and click on the History Tab. The top entry should correspond with the time your turned the workflow off on the old machine
- Zynk Database
Open your workflow and click on the Data Tab. If you sort the Created column by most recent, this should correspond to the last record imported by Zynk.
5. Scheduling and Connections
The last step is recreating the schedules and any machine based connections where applicable.
